Day 3

Half Day City Tour of Hanoi
Spend a few hours exploring this facinating city with the Ho Chi Minh Complex containing his Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh's former home and the One Pillar Pagoda followed by the Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake finishing at the bustling Old Quarter.

Day 4

Morning Cooking Class
This morning take part in a cooking class at Highway 4 Restaurant. Travel by cyclo trip to Chau Long Market to shop before travelling by taxi to the Cooking School on the edge of West Lake. After welcome drinks there will a briefing on the day's dishes and time to cook before feasting on them for lunch.

Travel from Hanoi to Halong Bay

A journey of about three hours.

Fly Hanoi to Hue

Between 1802 and 1945, Hue was the imperial capital of the Nguyen Dynasty's Vietnam. Picturesquely nestled at the mouth of the Perfume River, Hue today is a relatively tranquil city albeit still popular with tourists. Visitors are attracted by its World Heritage Site status, and though it is a city that more than nods to its past, it is unequivocally forward-looking.

Full Day Tour
Today begins with a gentle boat trip on the Perfume River to visit the characteristic Thien Mu Pagoda before continuing onto the Forbidden Purple City, constructed under the Emperor Gia Long's, in the early 19th century. The Forbidden City is located in the Citadel, which was badly damaged during the Tet offensive of 1968. Established as the capital of unified Vietnam in 1802, Hue was not only the political but the cultural and religious center under the Nguyen dynasty until 1945. Hue was declared a UNESCO World Heritage in 1993.

After a local lunch visit the tombs of the emperors Tu Duc and Khai Dinh. Tu Duc was Vietnam's fourth emperor and lived from 1829 until 1883 and during his reign Vietnam lost its independence to France, it is also rumored he had 104 concubines. Khai Dinh was Vietnam's Emperor from 1916 to 1925 and his tomb represents a fusion of traditional Vietnamese style and modern influence, as it is almost entirely made of concrete and includes many European architectural details.

Transfer from Hue to Hoi An

Travel by car to Hoi An, a journey time of three hours.

Hoi An is a picturesque and friendly old port town. Once a major port and trading centre, it is now altogether more laid-back. Despite a recent surge in popularity with tourists, its beautifully preserved old quarter - dating back to the 15th century - ensures the town maintains its calm and distinctive old atmosphere.

Day 10

Local Style Cooking Class at Tra Que Village
The day begins by exploring the local market, teaming with colourful stalls selling everything from herbs, spices, fruit and vegetables - everything needed for the day of regional style cooking. Travel on to Tra Que Village, your 'classroom' for the day where the cooking class will take place outdoors, over an open fire, using traditional methods. This day offers a true insight into Vietnamese rural life and an opportunity to to learn local skills, both cooking and about the community.

Learn how to throw a traditional net and row the circular bamboo boat.

Vespa Food Tour
Spend the afternoon and early evening wizzing through the streets on the back of a vespa, stopping at food stalls along the way. Eat and travel like a local.

Drive from Hoi An to Ho Chi Minh (Road Journey)

Still known to locals and much of the rest of the world as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh is an exhilarating city of culture, commerce and bikes. Vietnam's largest city, it is a sprawling and chaotic metropolis that pulsates with innovation and energy.

City Tour
Exploring Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) offers an experience of the country's most dynamic city - a vital economic hub, bustling with life, with many modern pockets without losing its Vietnamese traits. Modern skyscrapers sit amidst Chinese style pagodas and food stalls - all creating a dynamic yet traditional feel. Visit China Town and Binh Tay Market, stopping at Thien Hau, a 150 year old Chinese Temple, followed by the remarkable sites of the War Remnants Museum, which primarily exhibit the American phase of the Vietnam War. After lunch visit the Reunification Palace, followed by the Notre Dame Cathedral, the historic Central Post Office.

Drive from Ho Chi Minh to Ben Tre (Road Journey)

Cho Lach Homestay
Travel from Saigon to the rural region of Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta. Stay overnight with a local family to experince a genuine way of life. An English speaking guide will acompany you and enable you to communicate and join in with the family. Learn about their way of life, farming methods and family. Explore by foot or bike before enjoying a home cooked dinner. Overnight in private rooms with en suite bathrooms.

Drive from Ben Tre to Can Tho (Road Journey)

Can Tho is the largest city in the Mekong Delta region and is a lively waterfront town with a collection of backstreets and larger boulevards. It offers a great spot to base yourself for the local floating markets and to take a canal or river trip.

Floating Market
Spend a few hours watching the hussle and bustle of a Vietnamese floating market. Everything from haircuts to car parts is on sale but the majority of boats carry fruit and veg. Spot what is for sale by the sample hanging from the bamboo pole at the front of the boat.
