UshuaiaSituated on the southern shore of Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia is the most southerly town in the world. Founded in 1884, the town was a penal colony until 1947. The location is fantastic, with views over the Beagle Channel and across to the Chilean Island of Navarino. Ever since the sixteenth-century voyages of Magellan and the nineteenth-century explorations of Fitzroy and Darwin on The Beagle, and even to this present day, this 'uttermost part of the earth' has continually fascinated travellers. From the barren plains of the north, to virgin lenga forests draped in 'old man's beard', and glaciers descending nearly to the ocean, the island never ceases to enthral those intrepid souls who make it this far.
