Ushuaia

Situated on the southern shore of Tierra del Fuego, Ushuaia is the most southerly town in the world. Founded in 1884, the town was a penal colony until 1947. The location is fantastic, with views over the Beagle Channel and across to the Chilean Island of Navarino. Ever since the sixteenth-century voyages of Magellan and the nineteenth-century explorations of Fitzroy and Darwin on The Beagle, and even to this present day, this 'uttermost part of the earth' has continually fascinated travellers. From the barren plains of the north, to virgin lenga forests draped in 'old man's beard', and glaciers descending nearly to the ocean, the island never ceases to enthral those intrepid souls who make it this far.

Hotel Albatros

Hotel Los Cauquenes
Located in Cauquen Bay just 15 minutes outside Ushuaia, Los Cauquenes offers the best combination of luxury and location in the area. Built of natural woods and stone with comfortable leather chairs and a high ceiling, the main reception and sitting area, with its vast picture window overlooking the ever changing Beagle Channel, is a great place to sit and relax. The hotel has 54 well decorated en-suite rooms with wooden ceilings and either a mountain or Beagle Channel view. Walks along the beach, which is directly in front of the hotel, are easy and for those wanting to go into Ushuaia itself, there is a frequent and complimentary bus service.
