A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THE SOUTH WEST USA

The south-west of USA is a vast area of spectacular beauty and scenery that is dominated by largely arid landscapes. Steppes Travel focus primarily on holidays to Arizona and Utah, home to 40 national parks, monuments and heritage sites making it is a haven for outdoor and nature enthusiasts.

Home to the impressive Grand Canyon, this region is renowned for striking rock features of canyons, mesas and buttes along with the grand Colorado River. With a plethora of national parks, there is an array of hiking areas to explore this region with enormous diversity as each is unique in formation and geology. Colours here are bright with striking golden and red rock monuments at every turn making this one of the most breathtaking areas in North America.

WHEN TO GO TO SOUTH WEST USA

The shoulder season months of April to early June and September to early November are great times to travel to explore the parks when they are quiet.

The summer months are very hot so are best enjoyed away from the desert or near to a body of water.

The south-west is home to numerous bird migrations with most activity seen in the Spring, especially the month of April. By May, most bird species have arrived including owls, warblers, trogons and tropical birds such as Kingbirds and Nightjars.
