JGI (Jane Goodall Institute) Chimpanzee Haven is the first Chimpanzee sanctuary in South Africa and provides visitors with a new and unique experience. The mission of this Jane Goodall Sanctuary is to rescue Chimpanzees that have been removed from the wild and to place them in semi wild enclosures. The Haven is tourism friendly, with a tourism complex and multiple viewing platforms overlooking the enclosures to ensure the best sighting of the Chimpanzees. Adjacent to the sanctuary, is a 5-star lodge that offers clients the true safari experience, with game drives and access to private feedings times with the Chimpanzee residents.
Umhloti has daily transfers to the Kruger National Park which is situated only 45 minutes away from the sanctuary. With this in mind, guest can have a rare insight into the lives of the Chimpanzees whilst still being able to experience the 'big 5' in the world renowned Kruger National Park. Other activities that can be experienced are, the ancient paintings in the Umhloti caves, the Umhloti observatory (Opening 2006), and the 'Plato Deck' overlooking the sanctuary. JGI Chimpanzee Haven is a must for every tourist visiting South Africa.
