Take on Africa’s largest Tiger fish and Nile perch in a park where primeval crocodiles and prehistoric shoebill share their home with the largest troop of chimpanzees in Uganda.
Murchison Falls is a Lost World, as befits a park that is home to the largest crocodiles in Africa, where these primeval reptiles unchanged in nearly 150 mill years grow up to 6 metres long, bask on the banks of the Nile, underneath the thunderous falls from which the park takes its name. Giant Tiger fish and Nile Perch swim silently through waters of the river itself, daring those who take to the waters to test their resolve in the catch and release fishing for which the area is famous. Huge elephant herds are rumoured to contain some of Africa’s biggest tuskers and the holy grail of birds, the 5ft tall, prehistoric Shoebill Stork, hunts among the reeds in an area famed for its sightings of this enigmatic creature. If this still isn’t wild enough for you, then head to the budongo forest, where chimpanzees crash their way through the canopies as hornbills and fly-catchers take flight. After all this adventure, crack open a cold beer and relax at the exclusive Bakers Lodge camp, sumptuous dinners are followed by tales around the campfire.
