Udai Bilas is unique in Rajasthan as one of the most unchanging heritage hotels. It has been recently restored but remains true to its origins, some wallpaper has not been changed in 50 years yet still remains in immaculate condition.
The Hotel is perched on a promontory, which juts into the Gaib Sagar Lake and is approached by a drive between the lake and thick jungle. Situated 3 hours South of Udaipur the Udai Bilas was built by Maharawal Udai Singhji in the mid nineteenth century and later three new wings were added.
The palace is constructed in bluish-grey local stone and is surrounded by extensive gardens. The main building is centred around a reflecting pool with a paved courtyard and exquisitely carved ornate pleasure pavilion. During your stay it is generally possible to gain access to the main palace, which is only open to residents and is a marvellous example of the historical heritage properties of the region.
Udai Bilas Palace is a wonderfully grand nineteenth Century Palace which remains the Royal Residence. The 22 rooms and suites lie scattered around the residence and are positively vast. The interior has strong Art Deco designs and the family are well-respected hunters, who travelled the world to hunt. Around the palace you will see various trophies and relics, which was their custom.
