Arguably the most beautiful town in Cuba, Trinidad is a colonial gem. The town dozes in an 18th century time warp, and is a perfect relic of Spanish colonialism with several shady plazas, numerous small churches and palaces, narrow cobblestone streets and red tiled roofs.
The pace of life is slow, horse drawn carts rattle in the street and lazy rhythms really do emerge from dusky bars as evening draws in.
The Museo Romantico and the Museo Municipal de Historia give a taste of what treasures may be hiding behind the faded facades and wrought iron grills of Trinidad's houses. Not far from Trinidad are Caribbean beaches such as Playa Ancon, the Valley of the Sugar Mills and good trekking opportunities into the Escambray mountains with their picturesque waterfalls and lush tropical forest.
Trinidad represents a wonderful place to absorb all of Cuba's rich assets.
