Alex Walker's Serian Serengeti changes location twice in the year, moving with the herds across Tanzania's Serengeti National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. From December to March the camp is located in the south and from July in the north of the Serengeti in the Kogatende region where it stays until mid-November.
The camp has six tents, all classic in style with particular attention paid to detail to ensure your needs are well looked after. Dinners are mainly taken under the stars and fireside chats with a nightcap are the perfect end to the day.
Serian offers private game drives during daylight hours and both the northern and southern locations offer walking safaris as well as a number of other uniquely Serian activities.
Why we like it
Unlike other camps which have rigid safari times, you are encouraged to stay out with no set itinerary, which means you are free to explore or to practice your photography and proceed at your own pace. Alex likes to position his camps tucked away on the edge of plains or clearings, out of site but in the right positions for game viewing.
Beginning this year, Serian are launching a number of a fully female-guided safaris. This unusual experience showcases the wealth of guiding knowledge amongst their legion of dedicated female guides. Designed to celebrate and empower this growing minority, this fantastic trip offers all the wildlife experiences usually on offer, with standards as high as ever.
Led by these highly trained women, explore the Masai Mara from Nkorombo Camp, staying six nights in the exclusive Mara North Conservancy. Then fly south – across the border – to the plains of the Serengeti. Spend four nights discovering this captivating ecosystem, staying at the Serengeti Lamai Mobile Camp.
