Tanzania & Zanzibar Family Holidays

Flying due south ensures hardly any time difference between the UK and Tanzania. This, coupled with a direct overnight flight, ensures that you arrive ready to enjoy one of our top family destinations! A safari in Tanzania is a unique experience. A land of huge, rolling game parks and the loveliest people, this massive country has a wealth of opportunities. In the late dry season, Tarangire seethes with huge herds of elephants while, in the far north, migratory wildebeest flood in their millions into the vast Serengeti, creating the world's greatest wildlife spectacle. The great caldera of Ngorongoro is alive with game, while in the west, Lake Victoria conceals deserted and forgotten islands. The southern parks such as Selous and the magical Ruaha, remain unspoilt and off the beaten track with the lion hunting ground at Katavi and the chimpanzee haven at Mahale even more remote and unexplored. For those wanting a different type of adventure, the mountains of Kilimanjaro, Meru, Usambara and Undzungwa offer fabulous trekking opportunities while, for those wanting complete relaxation, the coast or Zanzibar offer some of the best beaches in the world.

The Magic of Tanzania

Destination Highlights:
  • Ngorongoro Crater

  • Kilimianjaro

  • The Wildebeest Migration

  • Stunning scenery

  • Big Five

  • Fabulous lodges and homestays

  • Glorious beach options

Day 1
Fly overnight from Heathrow to Kilimanajaro via Nairobi with Kenya Airways.

Day 2
Arrive in Kilimanjaro and transfer to Tarangire National Park and Tarangire Safari Lodge. Situated on an elevated ridge overlooking the Tarangire River, it is possible to view game from your room throughout most of the season. The lodge offers thatched bungalows or for those wanting the full safari experience, deluxe tents complete with comfortable beds, electricity and en suite W.C. with solar heated shower! The lodge is renowned for its friendly hospitality and you are assured of a relaxing stay while appreciating the abundance of wildlife in this beautiful setting.

Days 3-4
Early starts ensure you have the best opportunity to see as much game as possible during your stay. Return from your drive and cool off and relax in the Lodge's swimming pool!

Day 5
Today you will head to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge which stands high on the bluff of a dramatic cliff above the flamingo-frosted expanse of Lake Manyara. The ambiance of the Lodge with its panoramic views across the volcanoes of the Great Rift Valley, is a fusion of lakeside tranquillity and adventure-packed sporting activity.

Day 6
A full day to enjoy your surroundings at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.

Day 7
Today travel to Karatu at the base of the Ngorongoro Crater. Situated on a coffee farm between Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, Gibb's Farm is an idyllic, warm, colonial homestead which offers fresh, home-cooked meals. While coffee is still grown, processed and roasted on the farm, a vast ten acre fruit and organic vegetable garden now provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views. Game viewing can be enjoyed daily in the Crater.

Day 8
A day at leisure at Gibbs Farm.

Day 9
Fly to the Northern Serengeti and the Serengeti Safari Camp. Here you can really enjoy the wilderness of Tanzania - masses of animals, contrasting landforms and tribal peoples. The camps are semi nomadic - they won't move during a safari - but they actually shadow the Migration. While a full day from dawn till dusk can be spent on your own adventures with your own private 4x4 vehicle and guide, the wandering camps are sociable because they're shared - but never with more than eight guests, staying in classic safari style. Game drives, picnics and cookout breakfasts are a highlight of many guests' Serengeti Safari Camp experiences and depending on the camp location, are offered wherever possible.

Days 10-11
Serengeti Safari Camp.

Days 12-15
Fly from the Northern Serengeti to Zanzibar and Breezes Beach Club & Spa. Set in beautiful, tropical landscaped gardens on a pristine and peaceful beach, all 70 en-suite rooms and suites are fully air-conditioned and decorated in a true Zanzibari style. Terraces and balconies offer beautiful views over the landscaped gardens and the ocean. The Frangipani Spa offers an extensive range of world-class health and beauty treatments while the food served at Breeze's restaurants and bars is superb. Other facilities include a fitness centre, marine activity centre and scuba diving centre while sports available include tennis, water-skiing, snorkelling, catamaran sailing and wind-surfing. Boat excursions visit surrounding grottoes and nearby mangroves, while guided excursions in 4x4 vehicles or by mountain bike take in the nature reserve and the flora and fauna of the area.

Day 16
Travel by road transfer to Zanzibar airport to connect with your overnight Kenya Airways flight to Heathrow via Nairobi.

The cost of the above is from £4145 per adult and from £3985 per child under 11 years. This price is based on two adults and two children travelling and includes your international and internal flights, transfers and accommodation as mentioned above.
