Sussi & Chuma is open all year round and will remain open during the refurbishment program (final completion July 2008).
The Ten tree-houses at Sussi & Chuma are built into the living canopy of giant ebony trees, each with a private view of the Zambezi from its deck among the branches. They will be extensively renovated to offer one of the highest standards in our Zambian portfolio. This includes new thatched roofs and cement walls, new glass deck-doors and wooden viewing decks. All furniture will be upgraded & replaced and rooms will boast new blinds or curtains with a clean fresh décor look. The elevated wooden walkways will be re-built with timber safety railings, walkway lighting , and wooden bench areas to rest and embrace the great views.
The grounds boast lawns sweeping down to the river and wildlife such as elephant and hippopotamus often pass through camp. They can be easily viewed from the lodge decks, which will be extended to create an upstairs lounge & bar with dual-level outdoor viewing deck; downstairs will become an indoor and outdoor dinign area. There will also be a private dining room seating ten guests with added atmosphere from the wine stored here as it also doubles as the wine cellar. The existing swimming pool at Sussi & Chuma will be filled to become part of the extensive downstairs outside dining area. Another pool will be built along the river channel separating rooms 11 + 12.
The two Chuma Houses will undergo a refurbishment programme in 2008.
