Although I was trained in Graphic Design and PR & Marketing, for as long as I can remember I have always enjoyed travelling. At 18 I went on an extensive trip to every country in Europe in a camper van. During my twenties, I drove the breadth of the USA from New York to California while keeping Eastern time and observing unforgettable sunrises in Arizona. My travels have also taken me around Australia and to Sri Lanka where I got engaged upon an elephant! I joined the Steppes East team in 2004 and have since returned to Sri Lanka, and also visited the Maldives, China, Turkey, Morocco, Lebanon, Thailand and Laos.

What has been your favourite travel experience?
There are two. Getting engaged on an elephant in Sri Lanka, and taking a Mahout course in Thailand.
The best hotel/lodge that you have stayed in?
Angsana, Maldives.
What has been your most remote travel experience?
Sleeping in a swag bag in the Australian outback.
Your one luxury when you travel?
Earl Grey tea bags.
What’s your best piece of travel advice?
Always carry money in different places and don’t follow the crowd.
Where you would like to visit next and why?
Taking a second Mahout course, this time in Laos (because I am still crazy about elephants) and the rest of Indochina.
