Millie Summer
Country Director
I have been with Steppes Travel since August 2006 following a stint managing camps in Zambia, Malawi and Kenya. Prior to this I had independently travelled extensively throughout much of Eastern and Southern Africa, and since being at Steppes my most treasured memories of Africa include a flying safari over the diverse and awesome scenery of Namibia, meeting the Masai and Samburu on a fantastic trip through northern Kenya, exploration of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, a road trip through western Uganda and a trek to see mountain gorillas and chimpanzees as well as snorkeling in the turquoise seas of Pemba Island, visiting Zanzibar and Tanzania. Such a vast continent to explore, Africa is infectious
Countries you sell?
Kenya, Namibia, Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, South Africa
What has been your favourite travel experience?
Namibia – I don’t think you can beat a flying safari in Namibia - own pilot/guide/plane is the way forward! The scenery is utterly breathtaking, like another planet.
The best hotel/lodge that you have stayed in?
Little Shompole, Kenya.
What has been your most remote travel experience?
Skeleton Coast in Namibia…..and working on Kiwayu Island in Kenya for 6 months.
Most embarrassing travel experience?
Trying to find somewhere to go to the loo in the Skeleton Coast....no bushes.
Your one luxury when you travel?
Duty free shopping (it’s not real money at airports).
What’s your best piece of travel advice?
Don't try and fit too much in - it's meant to be relaxing and fun, not exhausting.
Where you would like to visit next and why?
Mozambique – perfect mix of culture, deserted islands and unspoilt coral reefs, white sand, turquoise water…..not yet taken over by mass tourism.
