This extended Arctic expedition presents the greatest opportunity for seeing the polar bear. Zodiacs are used to take expedition members to numerous landing sights or to cruise along the dramatic coastline looking for wildlife. Drift alongside towering cliffs, with expansive bird colonies and photograph spectacular glaciers and walrus haul-outs. With almost 24 hours of sun, time is virtually unlimited and expedition guides are always on hand to inform and enthuse about the wildlife and history of the region. When not on shore or in a zodiac, attend informal lectures onboard, covering everything from the flora and fauna of the region and tales of the early explorers through to ice navigation techniques.

Longyearbyen embarkationBoard the ship in Longyearbyen. Set sail in the afternoon and, for the first time, admire the island's rugged, glacier-topped mountains, rising majestically from icy Arctic waters.
Exploring Spitsbergen & the Svalbard ArchipelagoExpect a new adventure every day, as the ship circles the island of Spitsbergen, exploring smaller, outlying islands. Savour the wide variety of wildlife and stunning geological formations found here. Every expedition will be unique, but favouite landing sites include the 14th of July Glacier, Ny Alesund, Phippsoya, Alkefjellet and Sundneset. If ice conditions allow, there may also be the chance to stop at seldom-visited Kvttøya.Each of these sites has its own unique appeal. The 14th of July Glacier is home to purple sandpipers, common eiders, barnacle geese and Arctic terns, whilst Alkefjellet features nesting thick-billed murres. Reindeers roam the landscape at sites like Ny Alesund, Sundneset and Alkhornet, offering fantastic photography opportunities. Meanwhile, the search for the world's largest land carnivore, the polar bear, is an ever-present distraction. Both Phippsoya and Isbukta offer the highest chances of a lucky sighting, with the potential to capture photographs of these fearsome predators whilst hunting. Also have the chance to appreciate and understand Spitsbergen's unique culture. Learn not just how people live today, but how this land was first explored. Whaling was a key industry here; see the blubber ovens and other whaling evidence at landing sites such as Smeerenburg.Throughout the voyage, admire the colourful tundra meadows and immense glaciers that greet travellers to this remote landscape. As the ship slowly makes its way through the icy Arctic waters, hope to encounter one of the region's elusive beluga whales.
