Basecamp Isfjord Radio is situated on the outermost part of the Isfjord on the beautiful Nordenskiöld coast framed by the majestic Svalbard mountains overlooking the open sea.
The radio station has charming and cosy rooms, a lounge with a fireplace and a unique and extremely interesting history.
Until a few years ago, the radio station was an important connection for telecommunication between mainland Norway and Svalbard.
The area surrounding the radio station has exceptional animal life and a bird reserve where it is possible to find nesting birds right up to the station walls. Removed from civilisation in Longyearbyen, the biological diversity and geological conditions combined, make Isjford Radio a fascinating place to visit. Expect a wide variety of bird specie. Reindeer and Arctic fox can be seen, even a glimpse of a polar bear.
