Tailor-Made Holiday

Spitsbergen - Dog Sledding from Nordenskiold

7 days

from £2,695pp

Take to the ice for a fantastic journey across Svalbard with your very own team of huskies. This dog-sledding trip is for those looking for a true expedition across the Arctic and who don’t mind a night’s tented accommodation. Experience the incredible views and wilderness of the arctic. No previous knowledge of dog-sledding is necessary.

Longyearbyen

The journey begins in Longyearbyen. A small mining town, and the administrative centre for the Svalbard archipelago. With just one main street, and locals getting round by skidoo, it is fun but a slow paced town. Evenings can liven up in the bars with off duty miners and visiting tourists alike.  Stay at the Basecamp Hotel, a small characterful hotel that is the epitome of its environment.  A pine chalet, with driftwood, sealskin and slate adorning the rooms and communal areas. Warm and welcoming it is the ideal base from which to start and end an arctic adventure.

Own Husky Team

Mushing your own dog team across frozen fjords is a thrilling and liberating experience. Four days of feeding and harnessing your dogs with expert guidance, will ensure they will be your faithful hounds for the duration of the trip.

On the Ice

Spend two days travelling across the arctic wilderness. Routes and distances are dependent on the strength of the ice. The first day will be spent mushing through the valleys to Tempelfjorden where you will spend the night on the ice in tented accommodation.

Continue the following day to the Nordenskiold Glacier which affords fantastic views and where Nordenskiold Lodge can be found on the shore if Isfjorden. The lodge will be your base for two nights.  Experience further the remote artic lands with your dog team and visit the abandoned Russian mining town of Pyramiden. Return to the lodge to warm up in the sauna and tuck in to warming evening meal before returning to Longyearbyen by boat the next morning.

Roxy Dukes, Travel Expert

"Roxy filled us with enthusiasm and came up with some great ideas for a trip. We liked the idea of a slightly 'off the beaten track experience' and some private bespoke activities and that's exactly what we've had. Thank you!"

"Roxy created a wonderfully interesting route which was the basis for a super trip. She also chose lovely places for us to stay and interesting activities for us to participate in, introducing us to the idea of private guided experiences which we thoroughly enjoyed."

Sue Grimwood, Travel Expert

"It was tremendously helpful to be able to speak to someone who had been to Antarctica before - Sue had been on the ship we had booked, so was able to give us some very useful information. We felt that at every stage of the booking process that we were in safe hands. "

""I was uncharacteristically worried about this trip - neurotic some might say - and I was given 110% support and help with everything. I had been disappointed by not being able to get a space on the 2014 trip and so Sue was stuck with me for 2 years - a testament to her patience and professionalism. I was confident in Sue - she knows Antarctica and speaks from experience, that is worth a huge amount. Emails, which I would send were responded to almost immediately.""
