Day 3

Things to do in Cape Town
The vibrant city of Cape Town offers a host of activities which can be tailored for you by Steppes Travel, however many you can enjoy on your own and these include an afternoon at Kirstenbosch Gardens and then ascending Table Mountain in the revolving cable car. Swim with penguins on the swimming side of Boulders beach or walk with them on the board walk. Learn about Just Nuisance as you eat famous fish and chips at Simons' Town harbour. Discover shipwrecks at Cape Point with a picnic or eat sushi at the Two Oceans Restaurant before driving back from the point via the scenic Chapman's Peak and the Hout Bay Harbour Market. Meet the locals on Noordhoek, Clifton, Kommetjie, Camps Bay and Llandudno beaches. Walk the city to discover the Castle, Greenmarket Square and the many museums. Bustle through the V&A Waterfront to the Aquarium and harbour side bars. Follow Mandela on the long walk to Freedom at Robben Island. Savour high tea at the Mount Nelson Hotel overlooking the Company Gardens or get hands on at the Cheetah Outreach Centre and the World of Birds. Take a boat or kayak trip to Seal Island. Day 4

Robben Island - Suggestion
Delve into South Africa's political past and board a ferry from the V&A Waterfront to Robben Island. Here you will be joined by a local guide - someone who spent time on the island during the apartheid years - thus able to give a personal and often moving account of time spent there. Learn something about the island's most famous prisoner - Nelson Mandela - and see his cell where he spent nearly 27 years of his life. Now a World Heritage Site, during the apartheid years Robben Island was used to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morale. Freedom fighters, like Nelson Mandela, spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for their beliefs. Ferries depart at 9 am.

Half Day City and Table Mountain Tour
On a visit to the Mother City, take in the Houses of Parliament, the Castle (built between 1666 and 1679, this is South Africa's oldest building), lively Greenmarket Square with its daily market, the Company Gardens and of course Table Mountain which gives spectacular views over the city and Peninsula (cable car fee is not included as it is weather dependent). On the descent, stop at the Bo Kaap, home to the Cape Malay community, with its cobbled streets and brightly coloured houses.

Day 7

Typical Day on Safari (W)
The maxim 'the early bird catches the worm' is very apt to safaris. The wildlife is most active first thing in the morning so an early wake up call for a morning game drive is essential. Following a morning drive and a leisurely lunch there will be time to relax before venturing out in the late afternoon for another drive and to take sundowners in the bush. Having raised a glass to the setting sun, the journey back to lodge will be spent spotting nocturnal wildlife. While game drives provide the best chances of seeing most wildlife, Sabi Sands offers great opportunities for game walks with experienced rangers.

Named after the two principal rivers which flow through it, namely the Sabie and the Sand, the Sabi Sands covers a vast area of pristine African wilderness and is part of the Greater Kruger National Park where the Big Five roam freely. The sustenance of these rivers ensures that this area enjoys one of the highest and most diverse concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
