The land of the fabled White Rajahs, the hornbill and the Orang Utan, Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. It is also wonderfully exotic, home to the world's largest flower, the Rafflesia, flying squirrels, insect eating plants and quantities of yet unnamed flora and fauna. More importantly, the ancient virgin rain forest is home to 27 ethnic people, each with their own distinct language, culture and lifestyle. Spend a night in one of their longhouses and listen to the legends of their forefathers. If that is all too energetic, relax on one of the South China Sea beaches and make the most of its first class scuba diving.
