Riyad El Mezouar - Marrakech

A traditional Marrakech Riyad, the El Mezouar belonged to the Alaoui royal family for many generations between its building in the mid-18th Century and 1945. The Riyad is formed by two buildings facing each other and overlooking a planted courtyard-garden with swimming pool and fountain. It is one of the only authentic buildings left with a frontage of arcades and galleries running on all its sides and levels. Its exceptional rooftop terrace is unusually large completely level, making it ideal for parties as well as young children.

The entire Riyad in fact lends itself well to use by families or groups of friends with children as all the bedrooms are serviced by large galleries with Moorish arcades. Guests are invited to discover life as it was in ancient riyads where the senses are constantly stimulated; by humming birds, the surrounding mosques' call to prayer, fragrant flowers in the courtyard and delicious meals served indoors or out. Decoration and furnishings are an exquisite blend of silk fabrics and timeless objects such as Orientalist paintings, engravings, rugs and china.

At El Mezouar particular emphasis is given to the well-being of the body with spa treatments offered on site, focusing on the essential oils produced in the region, as well as day trips cycling to the Atlas Mountains.
