The resorts of the east are, in our opinion, the very best in the world and Indonesia has the greatest selection. Some of the most elegant can be found in Bali, tucked away near the beach or hidden in the cultural heart of Ubud. They are truly beautiful in design with that wonderful unobtrusive service that one only finds in the east. Many now have spas offering the best in relaxation and rejuvenation therapies.
On the other hand it would be a shame to ignore the other opportunities in Indonesia. Lombok, which is less developed than Bali, is home to the Oberoi, a sensational resort of sheer paradise. Further east there is Moyo with the tented camp of Amanwana while on Java there are also a number of resorts close to the main cultural centres such as the temple of Borobudur.
Alila Ubud is set amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in Ubud in the heart of the Ayung Valley, with dramatic views and a swimming pool, which appears to drop into the valley.
Amanjiwo reflects the architecture of Borobudur. It combines well with some of the resorts in Bali and Lombok or alternatively makes the perfect ending to a cultural trip in Indonesia.
Meaning 'Peaceful Hill', Amankila is one of the most glamorous hotels in Indonesia and a highlight for many visitors.
Amanwana is one of the most perfect island escapes. After a journey by plane and then by motor yacht, you arrive at an island deep in the paradise of a national park where service and comfort are the key rather than luxury.
The Como Shambhala Estate is a unique residential retreat located in the spiritual hard of Bali.
The Oberoi, Lombok is a creation of sheer paradise, which we have advocated since its outset
Uma Ubud overlooks the Tjampuhan Valley set amongst rice terraces and fenceless fields near the cultural heart of Bali - Ubud.
