Ras Kutani lies on an undeveloped Indian Ocean Beach, a four-kilometre crescent of white sand and gentle surf, cooled by the trade winds, surrounded by tropical forest replete with colobus monkeys, set adjacent to a fresh water lagoon. Ras Kutani is the perfect hideaway far from the maddening crowds, in which to relax after an exciting safari or just to unwind for a week or two. For those who prefer a more active stay there are facilities for sailing, windsurfing, snorkelling and fishing. You can take advantage of the empty beaches with long walks or explore the forests in search of the four different species of monkey.
Accommodation is in spacious cottages and the new Upepo Suites, all constructed from local materials. The four spacious and airy suites are appointed canopy-high on the hill, with sweeping views of the crescent bay and the jade waters of the Indian Ocean. Upepo is the Kiswahili word for breeze, each suite named after one of the prevailing winds that soothes this deserted stretch of the Swahili Coast, offering an idyllic sanctuary for the safari-weary traveller in search of tropical respite and castaway comfort. Set apart from the main lodge, perched amidst tropical forest on the hill behind, each suite comes with its own private areas and signature Sultan's bed.
Each cottage at ras Kutani is en-suite with its own large verandah and all have great views of the ocean. Exotic menus are based on the abundantly available fish and crustacean which is complimented by a well stocked bar. There is also a fabulous pool. The hotel is accessed from Dar es Salaam by road or by air.
