The two great advantages of travelling in Jordan are, first, its size and, secondly, its relative wealth of cultural sites, good hotels and range of tourist activities within such a small area. Driving north from the Red Sea, a diverse paradise, to the capital, Amman, can take as little as four hours by car and you will pass both Wadi Rum, the beautiful desert immortalised by T E Lawrence in his Seven Pillars of Wisdom, and Petra.
Don't miss the opportunity to visit Mt Nebo, the most revered site in Jordan, where it is believed Moses died and is buried. From here, you will have an amazing view across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea to the rooftops of Jerusalem and Bethlehem.
Conservationists will enjoy walking in the Dana Nature Reserve, while cultural travellers will be further tempted by Jordans desert castles as well as the Crusader fort of Kerak.
