Notable for its production of sugar cane, fruit and vegetables, Orange Walk's fields also hide the formidable Mayan remains of Lamanai and Chan Chich, the impressive Community Baboon Sanctuary and the wildlife reserves of Shipstern and Crooked Tree. No matter where you are or what you are doing, the vibrant and sometimes boisterous bird life is hard to miss. Here too you will find the largest concentration of Belize's cats, including puma, jaguar and ocelot.
Chan Chich Lodge is located in the lower plaza of an ancient Maya city and is in a private nature reserve of over 139,000 acres of rainforest. Chan Chich has 12 thatch-roof cabanas, all fully screened with ceiling fans and private facilities.
