Oman Holidays
Lying between Dubai and Yemen and across the Arabian Sea from Iran, Oman is overtly pro-British and the perfect starting point for an interest in the culture of the Middle East. Squeaky clean (you will be fined if your car is dirty) and sophisticated, it has avoided attracting large package tour groups and prefers to concentrate on the more discerning individual visitor.
Alcohol is freely available within hotels and women are not generally veiled, however we do recommend that you respect the culture of the country and dress accordingly.
Good roads connect all the main centres and, being quite compact, a holiday to Oman can either be based at one hotel with interesting day trips, or can involve staying in different places giving a little more variety and greater insight into the country. There are half a dozen very good hotels to choose from, each with their own attributes, largely defined by whether the beach in front of the hotel is private or public. This in turn governs what can be worn when swimming.
Uncomplicated, Oman holidays have remained a firm favourite of our clients for many years.

For day trips from a beach resort, there is an interesting diversity of old Arab forts in the surrounding area, together with excellent diving and sailing in old Arab dhows. It is also worth spending a night or two in Nizwa and exploring the highlands where the villages are more evocative than their coastal counterparts.
For a longer journey, head south to Ras al Hadd, the first point on the Arabian coastline to be touched by the morning sun, and visit the conservation area where one of the worlds largest concentrations of green turtles laboriously lay their eggs in the sand. Continue inland and camp out for a night in Bedouin tents in the Wahiba Sands or, for the more adventurous, spend two or three days traversing part of the Empty Quarter immortalised by the late Wilfred Thesiger.
In September there is a spectacular sight in the south of Oman as literally hundreds of Bedouin converge on Salalah to graze their camels on the lush grass which sprouts due to the khareef or desert monsoon. For a brief period of time, the desert is green and alive with activity before once again these proud and solitary nomadic people melt away and once again the desert exerts control.

Combine Oman with a few days in Dubai or use it as a place of relaxation after a journey to Yemen.
