Chan ChanChan Chan
Home to pre-Inca sites, Peru's northern coast is a treasure trove of archaeological wonders, museums and ancient cultures. The colonial city of Trujillo is an excellent base from which to explore Chan Chan, the largest adobe city in the world, dating back to the 12th Century. Further north, near the spice city of Chiclayo, lie the archaeological sites of Sipan and Tucume, famous for their remarkable pre-Colombian art. For the more adventurous, a visit to the remote fortress and temple of Chavin de Huantar is a fascinating journey into the jungle-clad foothills of the Amazon Basin.
