Apart from its beautiful unspoilt scenery, one of Mongolias most unique aspects is the high percentage of the population who still lead a truly nomadic life. Their traditions demand a remarkable level of hospitality, rarely seen in the west, and visitors, known or unknown, are always welcome in their gers, where they will be offered a vast array of home-made foods as well as tea and the infamous airag, an alcoholic drink made from fermented mares milk.
The family are always happy to discuss their lives and traditions, as well as giving spontaneous demonstrations of how they milk their horses, herd their reindeer, handle their eagles or even make yoghurt.
