UNWTO World Tourism Day

“ Safeguarding biodiversity is an urgent challenge that concerns us all – the international community, governments, companies and travellers – but it is not too late to act. ” - Taleb Rifai, UNWTO Secretary-General
UNWTO's World Tourism Day is on September 27th this year, celebrated under the theme of Tourism & Biodiversity. This year’s theme, celebrated within the framework of the United Nations International Year of Biodiversity, is an opportunity to raise awareness of the close relationship between tourism development, biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction.
Steppes Discovery has long advocated that adopting sustained tourism polices while raising awareness of the value of biodiversity is the only way to preserve the future of destinations and tourism itself. Main activities running throughout the campaign are the WTD 2010 Photo Competition and the publishing of ‘Inspiring Stories’ on tourism and biodiversity which can be found on the WTD website.
