Travellers on Brazil holidays bring important revenue to the country which in turn can be used to help the environment, it has been reported.
The latest tourism figures show that the industry has experienced strong growth - earning Brazil some £39.2 billion.
Money gathered through tourism is vital to help environmental chiefs in the country protect its natural landscape, with areas of the Amazonian jungle in need of preservation.
During a climate change forum held last month in Brazil, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that protecting the Amazon rainforest was vital, not just to his country but to others across the globe.
Conserving the jungle both reduces greenhouse gas carbon dioxide and helps to maintain the cycle of rains and the necessary conservation of biodiversity, he said.
More than a third of all species in the world make their home in the Amazon rainforest - with researchers estimating there to be between 96,660 and 128,843 different species of invertebrate in Brazil alone.
