Government officials in India have today launched a new campaign which aims to reduce climate change and protect the country's environment.
The Ministry of Environment and Forests has announced plans to implement the Green India Programme which will see it dedicating more money to wildlife protection and forest management.
According to a press release from the department, efforts will also be made to reduce the planting of Prosopis Juliflora a type of shrub which in some areas officials say has "become menace to plants and wildlife".
"These activities besides greening the country would also help in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change," the ministry said.
Conservation is being put at the forefront of much of India's policies as the authorities recognise that it is not only vital to the country itself but to the travel industry too.
A huge rise in demand for eco-tourism from travellers across the world is seeing India and other developing countries work towards protecting animals and their habitats.
