Already, Zanzibar is gearing up for the summer, with preparations underway for the hugely popular Dhow film festival a huge event which brings together people from across east Africa.
This year will mark the 11th anniversary of the festival which has, over the years stretched to beyond being solely a celebration of movies and now integrates music, theatre and dance into the entertainment.
The variety of musical talent on show at the festival is impressive to say the least, with brass bands, marimba, rap and reggae all making an appearance.
Held for ten days, the festival also includes numerous other cultural events, most of which are located on the spectacular waterfront of Stone Town.
