When travellers picture Zanzibar it is hard not to conjure up images of long white beaches, exotic creatures and stunning scenery.

The archipelago off the coast of Tanzania has long been a popular spot for intrepid adventurers and offers a wealth of activities and sights for visitors of all ages.

Located in the rich, blue Indian Ocean, Zanzibar is a must see for those who are holidaying in Tanzania – even if the trip is just for a few days.

Already, Zanzibar is gearing up for the summer, with preparations underway for the hugely popular Dhow film festival – a huge event which brings together people from across east Africa.

This year will mark the 11th anniversary of the festival which has, over the years stretched to beyond being solely a celebration of movies and now integrates music, theatre and dance into the entertainment.

The variety of musical talent on show at the festival is impressive to say the least, with brass bands, marimba, rap and reggae all making an appearance.

Held for ten days, the festival also includes numerous other cultural events, most of which are located on the spectacular waterfront of Stone Town.
