

An exhibition of photographs taken by the Royal Geographical Society depicting life in the Punjab has gone on show in London.
Entitled The Punjab: Moving Journeys, the show opened today (September 9th) and features photos taken during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
During this month, short films under the heading Britain, India, Pakistan will be shown, while during October and November work by artists Rashid Rana and Sophie Ernst which explores partition will also be on display.
Travelogues written and collected by members of the RGS during the period covered by the exhibit are also on show to help visitors gain a better understanding of the images.
The show has been created following consultations with various members of the Punjabi community within the UK, the Muslim Women's Welfare Association) and the North Hertfordshire Sikh Education Council.
De Montfort University fellow Dr Pippa Virdee helped to develop the exhibition and noted that it will be interesting for people of all ages, 24hourmuseum.org.uk reported.
She said: "The exhibition works on multiple levels providing something for children, those with a general interest in history and also those who may have some knowledge of the region."
It is being held at the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, London and will run until November.
