Egypt's+underwater+museum

The Egyptian city of Alexandria could soon be home to the world's premier underwater museum.

Situated in the picturesque surroundings of Cleopatra's Palace and the mythical Pharos Lighthouse, the museum will be partly submerged, allowing visitors to catch a glimpse of the bay's priceless archaeological artefacts.

Koichiro Matsuura, director-general of UNESCO, told Xinhua news agency: "This project will certainly enhance the appreciation of underwater cultural heritage and raise awareness of the urgent need to protect it from looting."

Egypt attracts millions of visitors every year, many of whom come to see the world-famous pyramids and other cultural treasures such as the temples of Luxor, the Valley of the Kings and the Library of Alexandria.

The country also has much to offer in terms relaxation as well, with the Red Sea resorts of Dahab, Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh providing everything those seeking sun and sand could wish for.

Many also travel to Egypt for its traditional Arabic shopping where people can barter and haggle to their heart's content for antiques, carpets, jewellery and perfume, to name but a few.ADNFCR-1391-ID-18767152-ADNFCR
