Unesco+to+discuss+World+Heritage+Site+nominees+

The World Heritage Committee will meet tomorrow to determine which places of interest across the globe should be protected.

Countries worldwide have nominated various locations which they have deemed worthy enough to put forward for World Heritage Status.

Among the places which are being considered on Wednesday are Mount Sanqingshan National Park in China and the Putorana Plateau Nature Complex in Russia.

As well as deciding on new sites, the committee will also discuss whether the 30 World Heritage sites which are currently listed should remain so.

Many experts believe that despite their status, a large number of these protected locations are still threatened by various factors.

Julia Marton-Lefevre, director general of International Union for Conservation of Nature, which advises the committee, said: "Natural World Heritage sites across the world are facing more and more threats.

"Mining, uncontrolled tourism and drastically declining wildlife populations are all taking their toll on these sites. The global community must do more to protect these priceless natural areas." ADNFCR-1391-ID-18673696-ADNFCR
