April - October14 hoursGMT +0-1 hoursOver 8 years Namibia Family HolidaysNamibia is situated on Africa's southwest coast and, with its rugged scenery and landscapes, is a gem for those in search of wilderness. Essentially a desert country, Namibia offers contrasting landscapes with the ancient
Namib Desert, rugged mountains, open plains and the majestic
Fish River Canyon in the south. Although the distances are great, the country has one of the best infrastructures in Africa. Moreover Namibia has now enjoyed over a decade of stability and peace and, because of its productive mining, farming, fishing and tourism industries, is better off than many other countries in the region.
Our Recommended Itinerary Discover NamibiaDestination Highlights:- Staggering scenery
- The oldest and highest sand dunes in the world
- Stunning desert scenery
- Big cats at Okonjima
- Endless activities at Swakopmund
Day 1Depart UK for your overnight flight with British Airways to Windhoek International Airport via Johannesburg. Another short flight and you arrive at the Witwater airstrip in time for a sundowner drive to
Desert Homestead & Horse Trails.
Days 2 - 4 Enjoy your tranquil surroundings, alfresco dining and fresh farm cuisine. Experience the staggering scenery on horseback, most popular at sunrise and sunset. At sunrise you meet and set off down dry river beds, mountain paths and wide open grassy plains to find your breakfast table set up for you with all your favourite breakfast treats! At sunset you set off again down a different route, only to find a friendly barman and selection of cocktails waiting for you up a mountain track!
Another adventure is an early morning guided excursion into the
Namib Naukluft Park to the
Namib "Sand Sea" and the
Sossusvlei Dune belt. Many say that no part of the desert is more stunning than
Sossusvlei, with its monumentally high multi-shaded dunes, petrified trees and dazzling white clay pans.
This is not a game rich area but magnificent animals like Springbok, Oryx and Ostrich can be seen in striking contrast to the surrounding landscape.
Day 5Transfer to the Witwater Airstrip and fly to Swakopmund Airport before transfer by road to the
Hansa Hotel.
Swakopmund is Namibia's premier coastal resort and is a popular destination. Nestled between desert and ocean, the town is also noted for its old-world charm and relaxed atmosphere and was the region's main harbour for many years. Here you will find a good selection of restaurants and coffee shops selling traditional German cakes and pastries!
Days 6 - 7Swakopmund is the centre for many fantastic activities and your hotel can help you decide which of the many excitements to try first. Choose from sand boarding in the desert, quad biking, parasailing, sea kayaking, horse or camel riding, dolphin cruises, fishing, tandem sky diving or searching for seals!
Day 8Today you will transfer to the Swakopmund Airport for your private charter flight to
Okonjima and the
Okonjima Bush Suite. You will arrive in time to take part in the afternoon activities offered.
This select, private Suite is a uniquely designed, African Bush-Cottage, set away from the main camp. In addition to the spacious sitting and dining areas there are two luxury, en-suite bedrooms, a private kitchen, spacious outdoor decked area, large swimming pool and personal host, chef, guide and vehicle for game viewing.
Days 9 - 10Today you can take part in one of the many activities on offer at
Okonjima - cheetah tracking, leopard tracking, bushman trails, and visiting the Africat Foundation to learn how they are helping the survival of these cats (and wild dogs!) and learn some fascinating facts from a dedicated team of staff.
Day 11 Your final morning will involve a transfer to your private charter to
Windhoek and on to the UK via Johannesburg.
The cost of the above is from £3,410 per adult and £1,970 per child (under 11 yrs).
