Etosha National Park

Etosha National Park is Namibia’s most prolific wildlife reserve and is home to the country’s largest population of lions and rhinos.

Situated in northern Namibia, Etosha, meaning “Great White Place”, is dominated by a massive shimmering mineral pan, which is flat, rugged and, for much of the year, dry and dusty. The wildlife viewing is best from May to September, which are the cooler months in Namibia.

A little more about Etosha

With over one hundred mammal species and three hundred bird species, it is the dry barren backdrop that makes this park so magical and unforgettable. In the west, it is possible to track rhino on foot and see these wonderful beasts at close proximity.

There is a selection of camps within the park itself and on the outskirts of the park. The Onguma Safari Camps are situated on the eastern side of Etosha, bordering Fisher’s Pan, in the region considered one of Namibia’s best-kept secrets.

Illona Cross

Born in a small South African town, I have always followed my passion for nature and discovery. After studying Nature Conservation in Pretoria, I was one of the first women to complete a very tough cadetship in the Natal Parks Board. It was here where I cut my teeth in African wildlife management.
