the site of Musawwarat es Sufra, which like Naqa consists of two sites, namely the Great Enclosure and the Lion Temple. The latter built around 230 BC by King Arnekhamani was restored in the 1960s by a team from Berlin. Inside the temple are some beautiful carvings of elephants.
The Great Enclosure, the largest set of Meroitic ruins in Sudan, is a rambling structure of low walls and toppled columns. The frequency of carvings of elephants throughout suggests that elephants may have been used or possibly trained here. The size of the whole complex is a good indication of the extent of Meroitic power
