Mundui Estate on the shores of Lake Naivasha, just a couple of hours' drive from Nairobi, consists of 1200 acres of acacia woodland and grass plains, offering spectacular walking scenery, allowing you to savour the Kenyan landscape without the need to step into a safari vehicle. Mundui is home to wildlife in staggering diversity and profusion: giraffe, zebra, eland, cheetah and hippopotamus all roam the grounds. If you are lucky you can catch sight of rarer species such as the serval cat, the honeybadger and the antbear. The estate is also a paradise for serious ornithologists. More than 250 species of birds grace the farm, which includes a mile of private shoreline by the lake. The two houses are situated in creatively landscaped grounds that run right down to the water's edge. Visitors stay in the two storey guest cottage that was originally built in 1933 as a hunting lodge.
The accommodation consists of two spacious double bedrooms and two bathrooms. After dark, the sitting room on the ground floor glows to the roar of an enormous log fire. Enclosed in the courtyard is a swimming pool surrounded by bougainvillea, a popular attraction to dozens of birds throughout the day. The owners of the Mundui estate are also your hosts. Andrew and Sarah Enniskillen live in the main house. Many of the guests who have come to stay here never feel the need to leave the estate. But if you do want to travel further afield the Enniskillens will happily take you on day trips to the National Parks at Hell's Gate or Lake Nakuru.
