Mukima, Laikipia
Located at the crossroads to many of East Africa's most beautiful and wild places, the bustling town of Nanyuki sits just below the equator and is famed for its 9 hole golf course, Settlers Stores and Trout Tree restaurant. Once a cedar forest, now a replanted forest of 20,000 hardwood trees, Mukima is a safe haven to a myriad of bird species and a selection of small game. Spectacular views of Mt Kenya and of the Loldaiga Hills are to be admired from all corners of Mukima.
The Mukima house was built in the 1940s, almost entirely out of cedar wood, making it one of Kenya's most exceptional surviving examples of a past era. The 360 acre property is located just fifteen minutes from Nanyuki and is set in colourful tropical gardens with extensive lawns. The rooms are comfortable, with local furnishings complemented by exotic pieces from Lamu and Java. The food is home grown, fresh and wholesome, carefully prepared and served by discrete and friendly staff.
Fishing, hiking, sailing and bird watching are only a few of the endless activities on offer in this immense nature wilderness.
The house is approximately a twenty minute drive from Nanyuki air strip.
