- Combine Marrakech, the Atlas Mountains and the Atlantic coast of Essaouira
Combining the vitality of the city with the fresh, clean air of the mountains and the dramatic Atlantic coastline, this trip will prove the perfect muse for any would-be sketcher, or anyone with an interest in exploring Morocco. With pencils, pens and paints at the ready, hike through the picturesque Atlas Mountains where isolated villages dot the landscape and the Berber people are your hosts. Stroll through the vibrant old quarter and colourful souks of Marrakech before watching the sunset at one of the roof top cafes looking down on Djema el Fna square, famous for its musicians, snake charmers and storytellers. Finish at the small fishing port of Essaouira, located on the Atlantic coast. This delightful Mediterranean- style town with a wide sandy bay, has a bohemian feel with white-washed walls and artisan galleries which line the narrow alleyways. Sit at one of the local restaurants, serving the morning's fresh catch of sardines, a great place to relax, sketch and enjoy the rocky coastline. Please note that most days will involve three to four hours of walking on foot, sometimes on uneven ground, so you will need to have a good level of fitness to enjoy this trip to the full.
