Lapped by the waters of Lake Victoria, shaded by giant fig trees and lost to the world, Mfangano Island Camp is an oasis of tranquility and an ideal retreat from the hustle of the 21st century. Victoria, the world's second largest freshwater lake, is a magical source of the Nile and Mfangano Island Camp is set on a secluded bay on the island.
The six double rooms, all offering spectacular vistas across the lake, are tastefully decorated in the Luo tribal style of thatch and clay. Dine on the freshest of catches daily. The chance to catch the giant Nile perch draws many. Some come for the abundant birds and glimpses of playful otters; others to explore the lush plant-life and friendly villages. Day trips from Mfangano Island Camp are arranged, but many guests prefer to just relax on the jetty for the spectacular sunsets as the sun sinks beneath the Lake.
