Mexico - Silver Cities and the Pacific Coast

14 days

from £5,695pp

This holiday idea is a wonderful journey through the enchanting Silver Cities for those that are interested in the arts and like a good coffee in a sunny plaza, before relaxing on the Pacific Coast at one of Mexico’s top hotels.

  • Explore Mexico City
  • Visit the ancient site of Teotihuacan
  • Visit the colonial town of Queretaro
  • Explore the art galleries of the pretty town of San Miguel de Allende
  • Navigate the winding streets of the Silver City Guanajuato
  • Stay at the Four Seasons Punta Mita

Your holiday begins in Mexico City.  This is a capital city most definitely worth exploring with its cosmopolitan flair, rich in culture, world-class restaurants, art galleries, museums a plenty and ancient archaeological sites within easy reach.

Visit the incredible site of Teotihuacan, home to the 3rd and 4th largest pyramid structures of the pre-Hispanic world.    Mexico City is also home to a number of superb art galleries, such as the house of Frida Kahlo and Diego Riviera and the incredible National Anthropology Museum with works by famous Mexican artists as well as 19th & 20th Century European names such as Salvador Dalí.  The house of architect Luis Barragan, for those interested in architecture, is fascinating. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site and the only private residence in Latin America to have been named so. His house is one of the most influential representations of modern Mexican architecture.

Leaving the bustling capital behind, your journey continues into the highlands to the Silver Cities that lie further north. Visit the colonial town of Queretaro. Home to a mixture of both Baroque and colonial styles, visitors can immerse themselves in the historic 19th century streets, enjoy a coffee in the sunny square and explore on foot.

Just an hour from Queretaro is the town of San Miguel de Allende.  San Miguel is an artists’ town, nestled in the mountains. Visitors will find a bohemian community with numerous bars, cafes, restaurants and art galleries.   Artists have opened their doors to passing visitors and many workshops and collections are on display.

Continue to the town of Guanajuato, a town that rose to fame and fortune through its abundant silver mines.  Compared to a medina, this pretty town with its winding streets and underground passages provides a treasure trove of delights including delicious eateries, markets and historic landmarks.

A short flight will take you to Mexico’s Pacific Coast and the rocky point of Punta Mita. This is a rugged coastline where tropical palms and lava rock formations dot the white sands of sheltered coves. Stay at the Four Seasons which provides exemplary service and an excellent standard accommodation on its own private peninsula.

"It was tremendously helpful to be able to speak to someone who had been to Antarctica before - Sue had been on the ship we had booked, so was able to give us some very useful information. We felt that at every stage of the booking process that we were in safe hands. "

""I was uncharacteristically worried about this trip - neurotic some might say - and I was given 110% support and help with everything. I had been disappointed by not being able to get a space on the 2014 trip and so Sue was stuck with me for 2 years - a testament to her patience and professionalism. I was confident in Sue - she knows Antarctica and speaks from experience, that is worth a huge amount. Emails, which I would send were responded to almost immediately.""
