This lush and fertile area is bisected by thousands of small channels as the mighty Mekong, the Mother of Waters, empties herself into the South China Sea. Travelling by boat up these channels you can visit colourful floating markets, bargain for an endless variety of fruit and walk across islands to see how some of the traditional foodstuffs such as tofu and rice paper are made. Several good hotels have recently opened making an overnight stay a comfortable possibility.
