Malaysia and Borneo Honeymoon

With its wonderful climate, superb beaches, world class hotels, friendly people and varied landscape Malaysia is an ideal honeymoon destination. Off shore, the beautiful island of Langkawi, just one hour flight from Kuala Lumpur, offers something for everyone. Primeval rainforests give way to soaring mountains, underground caverns, and tropical beaches, while at its heart there are traditional villages and markets to explore.

Many choose to combine a trip to mainland Malaysia with a visit to nearby Western Borneo. This lush tropical island, the world's third largest, has a less developed tourist infrastructure than its neighbour's but is simply teeming with wildlife. What's more it is one of only two places in the world that you can see orang-utans in the wild. Here too you can enjoy fantastic diving opportunities as well as mountain climbing and wildlife walks through the rainforest.

Visiting these two destinations together will give you a honeymoon which will more than satisfy the requirements of any couple in search of a combination of luxury hotel and a spot of wildlife and adventure!

Tanjong Jara Resort
This award-winning resort is situated on the East Coast of Malaysia, bordered on one side by the South China Sea and on the other by a long sandy beach. Unmistakably Malay in style, this spa resort aims to combine local culture with a sense of spiritual well-being and eco-friendliness.

All the resort's rooms are designed using a mixture of local materials and are positioned to offer panoramic views of the sea, landscaped gardens and beach. For honeymooners, we would recommend the Anjung Cottages. Each is 88 square metres and furnished with a king-sized bed and additional sofa bed. A large sunken outdoor bath is set within its own private gardens giving undisturbed privacy. A canopied terrace extends onto the gardens and beach.

Four restaurants serve a combination of authentic Malay cuisine, excellent seafood and Far Eastern specialties. Choose to dine overlooking the sea, on the beach or by the pool or alternatively, in the comfort of your own villa.

For the active guest, the resort offers two swimming pools, two tennis courts, a wide variety of watersports and golf. Jungle trekking and eco adventure river cruises can also be arranged.

Finally, the world-renowned spa village at the resort has been listed as one of the "Seven Natural Wonders" by Condé Nast Traveller. Here you can settle back into the luxury of your surroundings and allow the therapists to calm the senses and refresh the body and mind.

The Datai, Langkawi
Well known in the world of luxury hotels, The Datai has rightfully earned its place as a glorious refuge, from its perch among virgin rainforest, overlooking the warm sand and sea of the stunning Datai Bay.

All villas, suites and rooms have spectacular veranda views of the natural landscape whether lush jungle or the Andaman Sea. Deluxe Rooms are in the main building and are divided into two areas; bedroom with king-size bed and living room, private bar and balcony and a spacious bathroom. Corner and End Suites are larger and, in addition, offer a living area with dining table and a spacious balcony. For greater privacy, free-standing Villas built within the rainforest feature a private deck with sun lounges and an elevated veranda. For the ultimate luxury Pool Villas each have their own plunge pool with built in Jacuzzi and day bed.

Choose The Pavilion, set high amongst the rainforest, to dine on authentic Thai cuisine, The Dining Room for Malaysian and Western cuisine and the Beach Club for Alfresco dining at the beach. Wherever you choose to eat, you will not be disappointed by the high standard of cuisine.

To entertain you during your stay, The Datai offers two pools, two tennis courts, jungle trekking and mountain bikes for hire. The beach provides full watersports facilities and for those who wish to keep their feet dry, the 18-hole championship Datai Bay Golf Course is located adjacent to the hotel.

The Andaman

The resort has a Japanese restaurant, the popular Gulai House which serves a wide variety of Malay and Indian cuisine and the Beach Bar - perfect for sundowners and pre-dinner cocktails.

Your days can be spent lounging in the shade of the jungle trees which border the resort's large pool, enjoying any number of watersports facilities on the beach, or taking to the nearby championship golf course.
