Libya holidays
Libya is the undiscovered gold mine of North Africa. Off-limits to most Americans since the mid-1980s and before that seldom visited by even professional archaeologists, Libya is home to a mesmerizing variety of archaeological cultures and remains that range from the Paleolithic to Byzantine times.
In the deserts of the south you find prehistoric rock art that has been preciously protected by the dry air of the desert. In the eastern area of Cyrenaica there are the remains of ancient cities which are more akin to Greece or Turkey than Africa, while in the west, you will have an opportunity to walk round the ruins of Leptis Magna. This, the home town of a second century Roman emperor, is one of the most beautifully preserved examples of the ancient world and one which never ceases to amaze.
Tourism is in its infancy in Libya, making it one of the last travel frontiers in the world.
