One of Kenya's major private conservation successes at the foot of Mt Kenya, Lewa Downs has been the Craig family home since 1924. Today Lewa Downs offers the traveller a wonderful combination of warm hospitality, impressive scenery, abundant wildlife and an appreciation for the conservation efforts of a dedicated team of people. The family home accommodates 16 guests in comfortable thatched cottages with en suite bathrooms and verandas. The food is wholesome, ranch style and organically grown. Candlelight dinners are served on the large flagstone terrace followed by coffee and drinks around the campfire.
The wildlife experience on Lewa Downs suits guests from all walks of life and all ages. Activities include game viewing by vehicle, on horse back (the ranch horses are gentle and even novice riders will enjoy the experience) and on foot."Leave room for the wildlife" has been the Craig ethic since the 1920s. The area is committed to the conservation of wildlife and this is a truly magical 40,0000 acre corner of Africa where endangered species, including rhino, Grevy's Zebra and sitatunga, abound.
