Lechwe Lodge Lechwe Lodge

Lechwe WildlifeLechwe Lodge
Lechwe Lodge consists of six delightful rondavels dotted around well-kept lawns beside a farmhouse. All are roomy with solid wooden furniture, cool polished floors, en-suite showers and toilets. Lechwe's food is fresh and plentiful - truly wholesome farm fare. There's a good resident guide who can lead you on drives and walks around the farm, though walking on your own is allowed if you're careful; there are no big cats, elephant or buffalo here.

The farm at Lechwe Lodge covers a sizeable area of indigenous woodlands and floodplain beside the spreading Kafue River. Here you will find giraffe, eland, Lichtenstein's hartebeest, Kafue lechwe, oribi and sitatunga, as well as the more common antelope of the region. Plenty of serval stalk near the water and numerous crocodiles, otters and hippos inhabit the river. Birdwatchers won't be disappointed, with over 420 species ranging from water birds and waders to birds of drier areas. Boat trips along the river and fishing excursions are also possible most of the year, as is horse riding (for experienced riders only). Finally you might go on a short farm tour, learning about their eco-friendly system for producing both pork and fish, and perhaps incorporating a spot of bird watching from one of the four high viewing platforms which overlook the river. Lechwe Lodge is a gentle and civilised place, perfect for just relaxing on your first (or last) few nights in Zambia. It's also excellent value and open all year.
