Two very contrasting cities that vividly portray the diversity of Pakistan. Lahore, full of Mogul architecture, is formal and sophisticated. Visit the city museum and outside you will still find Zam-Zammah, the canon where Kim would sit, in defiance of municipal orders, or stroll through the fine bazaar, the formal gardens or magnificent fort.
Peshawar, on the other hand, is pure frontier town. Bustling, full of Afghanis, you can buy anything here from a bicycle to a missile. The best place to buy carpets, Peshawar is fun and exciting and guards the gateway into Afghanistan through the Khyber Pass. Ride a steam train to the border through tunnels once defended by British troops where outposts such as Churchill's Picket can still be seen on the mountainsides.
