Despite it's relatively small size, Nepal has a huge range of activities available and all of them can be tailored to suit personal requirements and abilities. As the pioneer of trekking in the sixties, Nepal now has trekking routes of every conceivable difficulty and length and there are still many areas which have seen few tourists. All treks are bound together with the common thread of impeccable service provided by the Sherpa teams who not only look after their guests rather better than many hotels, but also manage to conjure the most delicious food out of seemingly impossible situations. For those who want the mountains without the walking, then Pokhara, on clear days, offers the most wonderful views of Annapurna. In a number of areas it is possible to go river rafting, which again has been practiced since the 70's. Like trekking, the rivers vary in intensity and trips vary from one to three days depending on the area. Some are simply a fun day out which can be undertaken by anyone, while other rivers can provide white knuckle excitement. Nepal is equally famous for its jungle which lies along the Indian border in a region known as the Terai. Here there is a good population of one-horned Indian rhinoceros, several species of deer, monkeys, bear, gaur, a multitude of birds, leopard and of course the tiger. Spend a few days walking, riding elephants, bird watching and relaxing.
