Journey Across the Atlas
This journey takes you from the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, over the Atlas Mountains, to the ochre red charm and colourful souks of Taroudant in southern Morocco. Using a traditional riad (merchants house) in Marrakech as a base, you can sample some of the city's fascinating sites before driving one hour to the Residence de la Roseraie, situated in the picturesque foothills of the Atlas Mountains. Continue your journey crossing the Tizi-n-Test pass. From the summit, the road drops to the walled town of Taroudant and the Hotel Palais Salam. Originally built 100 years ago it features a maze of hidden corridors, terracotta tiled terraces and tropical gardens with orange trees, pandanus and flamboyant cascades of bougainvillaea.

The High Atlas
The High Atlas still acts as a barrier between modern and old Morocco and once across, you enter a relatively undisturbed world - a land of dusty outposts and magnificent, slow moving, camel trains still plying the ancient trading routes. Fes, considered to be one of the most complete medieval cities of the Arab World is a wonderful start to any trip to Morocco. Unlike other cities, tourists are still largely ignored in the medina as the local people go about their daily chores. Continuing south, the extraordinarily diverse landscape reveals high pastures dotted with shepherd's tents before dropping into the dramatic Ziz Valley and the dry red desert of Erfoud, near to the impressive dunes of Erg Chebbi. A drive through the spectacular Dades and Draa valleys offers some of the most fabulous oasis scenery before arriving at the desert outpost of Zagora. It is possible to try a short camel safari, with candlelit dinner and a magical night in a Bedouin tent. Berber villages are surrounded by palms, fruit trees fringe the river and wild roses grow everywhere. Finally we suggest that you relax for a few days in a traditionally built riad (merchants house), an ideal place from which to explore this ancient and fascinating walled town.
