Amanemu embraces the ancient Japanese tradition of onsen (mineral hot springs) and the culinary traditions of this gourmet region. The resort’s name is drawn from the Sanskrit-derived word for ‘peace’ and nemu, Japanese for ‘sharing joy’.
Amanemu is Aman’s first mineral hot spring destination.
Approximately 3 hours from Kyoto, Amanemu is set in a stunning national park on the shores of Ago Bay.
The 24 suites and four two-bedroom villas are positioned on a hillside offering garden views or panoramic vistas of Ago Bay, its picturesque islets and drifting pearl rafts. Inspired by a traditional Japanese village, each of the elegant suites has a private onsen and generous terrace from which to enjoy the views. The Aman Spa has two onsen bathing pavilions with mineral rich water from a nearby spring and the hotel also offers an outdoor heated swimming pool, Yoga studio and a fitness centre equipped with state of the art cardio and strength-training machines
Aside from the plethora of cultural and UNESCO World Heritage Sites to visit in cities such as Kyoto, there are a wealth of wonderful things to experience in close proximity to Amanemu. Head onto the waters of Ago Bay to watch the sunset, or by day to fish with an expert angler before taking your catch back to the hotel to let the Amanemu chefs turn it into the finest tempura and sashimi for your evening’s meal. Explore the history of Ago Bay, from the pearl rafts and oyster divers to the ama, female freedivers who have resided in Ago Bay for centuries and still dive for shellfish, seaweed and sea urchin. Away from the coastline it is possible to head into the hills to trek some of the UNESCO World Heritage-designated Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails or explore the holy Ise Grand Shrine with an expert guide to witness a prayer session and dance.
