We prefer to use small, hand-picked properties that carefully balance island charm with a boutique feeling. While still offering the indulgent spa services that are synonymous with Caribbean Island stays, our picks go beyond the tourist trail. From properties perched on rocky outcrops to hideaways nestled on sandy coasts and colonial plantation houses in the misty Blue Mountains to glamorous private villas once owned by the author of James Bond, we know the most thrilling, the most romantic, and everything in between.
Situated on a seven-mile strip of white sand, lined with jerk shacks and lively watering holes, the town of Negril opens onto secluded lagoons and colourful coral reefs, making it one of the islands’ snorkelling meccas. We can arrange horseback rides across the rolling pastures and gurgling rivers of Paradise Park, expertly guided tours of the endangered swamps at the Royal Palm Reserve, and visits to hand-feed hummingbirds outside the town of Anchovy. At days’ end, perhaps frequent the laid back Rick’s Cafe to observe unrivalled views of the Jamaican sunset while watching cliff divers take to the air.
Welcome to Treasure Beach, a place where the renowned Jamaican idiom “no problem” is most prevalent and the laid-back island vibes are infectious. From exploring wetland preserves in search of crocodiles and manatees to hours spent indulging in a natural aqua massage under the cascading YS Falls, Treasure Beach is every bit as spectacular as the name implies. From this secluded piece of coast where reggae music floats on the cool Caribbean breeze, hop on a boat for a memorable sailing to Floyd’s Pelican Bar. Sip a rum cocktail at the iconic rickety shack in the middle of the sea, and add your name to the carvings that wrap every crevice of the wooden structure.
It is difficult not to be beach-centric when exploring Jamaica, but the tropical island is no one-trick pony. Travel inland to the cool and rugged Blue Mountains, where we can arrange hikes to quaint villages and coffee estates that are coveted the world over. With an abundance of challenging valleys, thundering waterfalls and meandering rivers to traverse, the mountains are also an awe-inspiring location for off-the-beaten-track explorations and dips in secluded waterholes. Keeping a watchful eye out for the world’s second largest species of butterfly, spend time unwinding in the pristine hills of the Blue Mountains before taking a trip to nearby Kingston, with its diverse combination of Arawak, Spanish, British, Chinese, Indian and African influences.
When not lounging in one of the exclusive villas once owned by the author of the James Bond novels in small-town Oracabessa, perhaps visit the pristine private Laughing Waters Beach, where Ursula Andress made her unforgettable emergence from the ocean in Dr. No (the movie that launched the iconic saga). For those seeking a last look at the inland landscape, we can arrange a memorable trip to the breathtaking and little-visited Blue Hole, the tropical paradise that is even unknown to some locals. Make like Tarzan and swing by rope in to the bright blue waters of this tropical pool, or clamber down the rocks in to the cold waters below.
